A Gourd Time in Glen Rock

Hello! I'm back to the blog this week my patient Pop Uppers. The beginning of fall was a bit rough but boy, oh boy, has it been l-o-v-e-l-y the last few days.

Our market yesterday afternoon was so busy with visitors jamming up and down the rail trail, the Northern Central Train rolling through and our neighbors and friends stopping by. It was so heartening to receive your excitement and support yesterday, we were happily busy the entire market and we sincerely thank everyone who donated to our market fundraiser!

The first beautiful Sunday was only the beginning of what Glen Rock has to offer this month. October truly is shaping up to be the best month of 2020 in Glen Rock. Here are some of the family friendly, socially distant, community building activities that are coming up in Glen Rock.

Glen Rock Train Stop Pop Up Online Farmers Market - Our weekly online farmers market where you can order from 8 vendors in one spot! Place your order by 4pm on Wednesday and pick it up at the carolers statue on Thursday at 5pm. Our seasonal market will run weekly through the 22nd of October with holiday markets monthly until the 2021 opening. More on the holiday markets next week.

New items this week include tinctures, dried florals, micro greens, houseplants and more!

Simply Local of Glen Rock - Open Saturdays and Sundays 11am -3pm Simply Local is located on the 2nd floor of the Heathcote building at 48 Water St, Glen Rock. They offer locally produced goods, all high quality handmade products. They also offer wines from Jackson Square Vineyard.

Hufnagel Public Library of Glen Rock Fall Book Sale - Sunday, October 11th 12 - 3 pm in the library parking lot along the Rail Trail at 32 Main St, Glen Rock.

  • Books for adults, kids, teens; fiction, non-fiction, cookbooks- Paperbacks $.50, Hardbacks, $1

  • CDs, DVDs and audiobooks $1

Front Porch Pop Up - Sunday 12- 3 pm at Glen Rock Mill Inn with rotating vendors, weather permitting through October. Season ending October 25th. This week's lineup includes:

Dining and Staying

Glen Rock Mill Inn - For fine dining with a casual atmosphere the Glen Rock Mill Inn is open indoors and out Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended and can be made on Open Table or call during their business hours.

And did you know the inn part of the Glen Rock Mill Inn is back up and running? They are again hosting guests for weekends. I am particularly glad because it will be so nice for my parents, who live 7 hours away, to know that they can stay mere minutes away from me for a safe and socially distant visit. Rooms are even currently available for Thanksgiving and New Years weekend. (Hint, hint: Mom, I know you're reading this.)

Family Fun

Glen Rock Park - Tomorrow, October 6th from 5-8pm Ms. Sarah, of Glen Rock Rec Board and Mac Kid South York fame, will be hosting park play dates and rock painting for kids of all ages. It's going to be sunny and warm and it feels like a win that at least one of these planned park play dates is going to happen!

On Sunday, October 18th, Ms. Sarah will be hosting some specifically spooky Halloween themed fun. Her pumpkin hunt for younger kiddos is booked full but the Dog Park Bow Wow Trick or Treat and the Teen Halloween Party (registration required: click here) are great options for the four legged and older kids among us. I'm really excited to be an attendant at both of these events!

Then beginning Monday, October 19th, will be the Hay Bale Halloween Scavenger Hunt! This self-guided scavenger hunt will take place daily October 19-31st 8am-8pm. Just log on to the event page for your first clue. Collect the letters at each of the 8 scenes to reveal our hidden message and discover how to receive your sweet reward at the last clue.

But, seriously, there's a TON more family friendly events going on and if you want to know more I suggest you subscribe to Macaroni Kid South York. Ms. Sarah collects ALL the info in one place for your convenience. Show her some love!

Green In The Glen - Saturday, October 17th at 9am, you can workout your civic duty and your body with the Glen Rock Beautification Committee. By weeding, picking up trash and planting the GRBC strives to promote the beautification of the public areas within the Historic Glen Rock downtown area in order to foster a sense of community. They meet outside the library and work their way around town.

It's been a difficult year and continues to be so, but I am convinced that our community can come out of it better if we stick together. Let's enjoy what we can, protect and care for each other and have a gourd time in Glen Rock!
