Friends of Glen Rock Borough

Hello, my dear Pop Uppers, and happy Giving Tuesday. This is my favorite day of the holiday shopping season. On Giving Tuesday we get to remember the reason for the season, to give rather than to get. To that end, I want to tell you about the Friends of Glen Rock Borough, the local nonprofit that supports our market and our wonderful park and playground and keeps me busy throughout the year.

The Friends of Glen Rock Borough is committed to providing entertainment and economic improvement to Glen Rock. It has been a privilege to work with the many members of our community have been involved with the Friends group. Here are my top 5 reasons for giving to the Friends of Glen Rock Borough this holiday season.

Glen Rock Train Stop Pop Up - You know this was at the top of my list. The Glen Rock Train Stop Pop Up is the latest iteration of the Glen Rock Farmer's market as has come a long way in the past 3 years that I have been managing it. We're now a weekly online and in-person market being co-hosted with Glen Rock Mill Inn. Your donation will go towards keeping the vendor fees low so our amazing local vendors can provide you all of their delightful products in 2021, please write GRTSPU in the comments. Check out our Online December Holiday Market opening tomorrow for lots of early winter goodies.

Glen Rock Park - The Glen Rock Park is the first place I volunteered when I moved here with my family. I grew up in a small town nearly identical to Glen Rock so I know just how important it is to have a safe and fun space for kids to be kids. Your donation to the park goes to filling the mulch beds, keeping the grass growing and maintaining equipment, please write Glen Rock Park in the comments.

Holiday Helpings - Holiday Helpings is the newest program being offered by the Glen Rock Rec Board. The Rec Board is collecting ingredients for a day's worth of holiday meals. Breakfast will be a casserole that is a tradition in member Sam's family, she's even sharing her secret recipe. Dinner will be an easy pasta dish and dessert will be that Christmas classic, sugar cookies. Your donation will go towards filling up to 50 meal bags to be gifted to local families, please write Holiday Helpings in the comments.

Summer Playground Program - The SPP is the most ambitious of the programs offered by the Glen Rock Rec Board, and it's the longest running, having been offered for more than 20 years. The Playground Program runs through the month of July every summer providing games, snacks and social time for up to 75 local kids. It also offers a fun volunteering opportunity for older children and job opportunities for young adults. Your donation to the Summer Playground Program goes to keeping the program free for Glen Rock children, providing snacks and games for them, please write Summer Playground Program in the comments.

Glen Rock Dog Park - Through the hard work and dedication of the previous generation of Rec Board members the dog park was dreamed up and brought to life in 2017. The current Rec Board is learning what it takes to use, maintain and improve this canine play spot . One of the most fun events of any season is the puppy photo shoots! Your donation to the park goes towards lawn, fence and water maintenance, please write Dog Park in the comments.

These are just my favorite projects but there is also Arts and Brew Fest, Movies at the Ruins, Bark for the Park 5k9 and more. I hope you've had the opportunity to enjoy some of these amazing programs in past and that we can continue to offer lots of fun in 2021.
